Abstract
198,769. Hewitt, L. B., and Metropolitan Electric Tramways, Ltd. March 8, 1922. Electric braking.-In multiple-control systems for breaking a train of electrically propelled vehicles by converting the motors into generators, each motor-vehicle, in addition to switches controlled in common from a master controller on one of the vehicles, has a change-over switch tending to move from a power position to a brake position but normally prevented from doing so by an electromagnet energized by the line current. When the current fails all the change-over switches move automatically so as to connect the motors of all. the vehicles in a circuit arranged as in the Figure, comprising motor-armatures 32, 33, field-windings 34, 35, braking resistances 31, and magnetic brakes 53.
