Abstract
207,217. Booth, J. H. July 12, 1922. Carburetting.-In a carburettor with a porous or absorbent material interposed between the liquid fuel supply and the air passage, the porous material is enclosed within a casing having a number of small fuel inlets through which liquid fuel is fed thereto, an adjusting-device being provided to vary the number of inlets or the size of all of them. The casing c surrounding the porous material e is provided with one or more apertures c<1> communicating with a float chamber b, and the porous tube e is reinforced externally by a thin metal shell f having apertures f<1> adapted to be brought into and out of register with the apertures e<1> by rotation of said shell, which is provided with a radial extension f<2> connected to a Bowden control, for varying the fuel supply. One end of the tubular air passage formed by the tube e is provided with a throttle valve d, while the tube e may be provided internally with projections or a core of smaller diameter to break up the current of air. In modifications, the shell f may be displaced longitudinally, or the casing surrounding the porous material may be provided with an external cylinder, fed with liquid fuel, having a number of holes communicating with the porous material, which may be in the form of perforated partitions, more or less of said holes being opened by a sliding piston working in the cylinder.
