Abstract
202,233. Mitchell, J., and Cossey, J. C. G. Feb. 19, 1923. Combined buffer and draw-gear. - Casings secured to the underframe are provided for the draught and buffing springs, and a ferrule inserted in the casings surrounds the draw-bar, the internal cross-section of the ferrule being adapted to prevent the draw-bar from rotating relatively to the ferrule, and a flange on the external surface of the ferrule fitting in a suitably-formed recess in one of the casings prevents relative rotation between the ferrule and the casing. The casings 2, 3 surround the draw and buffing springs 4, 5, and abut the underframe 13. A ferrule 6 fits over, and has an internal section to correspond to the section of, the draw-bar 1, which is circular, with top and bottom flats extending along its length. The ends of the orifice through the ferrule are tapered at 9 to permit rocking movement of the draw-bar, and the external surface of the ferrule is provided with a flange 11 which fits in a corresponding recess in the casing 2 and prevents relative turning movement as well as axial movement between the ferrule and casing.
