Buffers.-A buffer for railway vehicles has the head formed with a rearward extension having a pocket or projection adapted to engage a complementary part on a supporting and guiding spindle so that the spindle may be removed by a transverse movement when the plunger has been taken out of its casing. In the form shown, the head A is riveted to the plunger B, which works in a casing C riveted to the headstock D and has a rearward extension a provided with a pocket G. The spindle E has a rectangular head adapted to seat in the pocket, and is held against ejection by a recoil spring I arranged between a collar J and a washer K held by a nut L. The buffing spring M<1> is held between a locking washer O which fits the plunger and a floating abutment N. The spring M<2> is arranged between the floating abutment and the bottom of the casing C. The head F may be polygonal in shape, or may be spherical or have a projection at the bottom, or may be cylindrical, in which case the spindle is provided with a square part to prevent rotation. The buffer head may have a projection adapted to engage a hole or recess formed in the end of the spindle. Specification 129,434 is referred to.
