Abstract

215,486. Mitchell, J., and Cossey, J. C. G. Feb. 27, 1923. Buffers of the type comprising a plunger of pipe form open at its inner end, a casing divided axially into two parts, a spring contained in the casing and abutting at its end against the head of the plunger and the base plate, and means other than a stem securing the plunger for preventing the plunger from being ejected from the casing, are provided with internal projections or lugs fitted in the casing which engage in slots or recesses in the plunger, or in which external projections or lugs on the plunger engage in recesses in the casing. The plunger 1 is provided with recesses 8, 9 mto which project lugs 10, 11 from the casing. In a modification, the recesses are made in the casing and the projections on the plunger. The casing may have a separate base plate 6. The projections may be made by indenting the casing or plunger.
