Blocks and shoes. - The brake block b for railway and other vehicles is secured on the beam a by a member c which is slid over the end of the beam and is turned by a spanner so that it is forced laterally against a spring washer w interposed between it and the brake block, by the engagement of cam surfaces g formed on its outer face with a pin d<1> which is passed through a hole in the end of the beam. The pin engages recesses in the face of the member c to prevent rotation thereof. Accidental removal of the pin d<1> is prevented by the engagement of its bent end d<3> with the end of the beam. This device permits ready removal of the block from the beam and is used instead of the usual nut.
