[Class 61 (ii).] An adjustable tappet head f for the end of the valve stem of an internal-combustion or other engine, compresser, exhauster, or the like is formed with a split conical extension e which screws on to the valve stem and is locked in position by engagement, with a conical part d of the spring washer a, the parts d, e being disengaged by the insertion of the wedgeshaped forked end p, Fig. 4, of a tool o between the washer a and the head f, whereupon the head f may be adjusted, the valve stem being held against rotation by one or more projections s on the tool o entering holes on the washer a, which also has a tooth n entering a keyway m in the valve stem. A thickness gauge may be attached to the tool.
