Abstract
297,721. Hall, A. E. June 25, 1927. Gas-engine igniting-gear and the like, apparatus for setting.-k timing apparatus for internal-combustion engines is provided with a slide 6, moving over the scales 10. and provided with clips adapted to hold a card 5a, on which are marked the correct distances from the top dead-centre of the ignition and valves opening and closing points. The apparatus comprises the usual body 2, screwing into the sparking-plug orifice, and the rod 7 raised by the piston against the action of a spring 12 and carrying a pointer 9. When the pointer has moved the slide 6 to the highest point the valve, and ignition timing can be checked. For engines in which the sparking-plug orifice is in the side of the cylinder the rod 7 is replaced by a lever 11, Fig. 4, pivoted in the body 2 and engaging a hole in the piston 14, which carries the pointer 9.
