Spindles and spindle-mountings.-A resilient mounting for the spindle of a grinding or polishing disc p consists of a head a carrying in ball bearings d, e a driving spindle b coupled by a universal joint k to a part q of the spindle, which carries the disc p. The part q runs in ball bearings f, g mounted in bushes o o engaged by the outer ends of springs h<1>, h<2>, the inner ends of which bear on the flanges of collars i and press these against a collar r in a sleeve c secured to the head a; the spindle q thus can yield, under grinding pressure, both axially and angularly. The spindle q may be in two parts screwing together to vary the tension of the springs. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a flexible shaft drive between the parts b, q. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
