Abstract
425,398. Buffing and draw - gear for railway vehicles. KRUPP AKT. - GES., F., Essen, Germany. Nov. 14, 1934, No. 32765. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 103 (v)] Relates to central buffer couplings of the kind in which a centralizing spring D for the coupler C<3> is adapted to be compressed by the relative sliding movement which occurs, on displacement of the coupler head, between the coupler shank C and a member G interposed between the shank and the buffing and draw gear. According to the invention the intermediate member G is formed with a number of projections g<2>, g<3>, g<4> which abut against stops h<1>, h<2>, h3 on the buffing and draw gear so as to cause the spring D to be compressed owing either to lateral or vertical displacement of the coupler. In the arrangement shown, the spring D is located in the coupler shank C between a fixed bar F and a key E, which is integral with the intermediate member G and slides within a slot c<2> in the shank C. Between the shank C and draw-bar N is disposed a ball- and-socket joint M, which also has partspherical surfaces co-operating with curved surfaces on a casing H, the latter being provided with the stops h<1>, h<2>, h<3>. The projections g<2>, g<3>, g<4> lie on a circle concentric with the joint M, and all co-operate to compress the spring D when a vertical displacement of the coupler occurs, while one or other of the extreme projections g<2>, g<4> function when a lateral displacement arises. Inclined surfaces h<4>, g<5> are formed on the stops and projections so that, if a rotary or twisting movement is imparted to the coupler, a compression of the spring D again occurs giving rise to a centralizing force. In order to adjust the power of the spring D an abutment J bearing against the forward end f<2> of the bar F is given an initial setting by means of a screw K.
