Abstract

707,343. Combined buffer and drawgear. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. April 21, 1952 [April 21, 1951], No. 9943/52. Class 103(5) The yoke 20 of a combined buffer and drawgear comprises a head portion having slots 27 for the key 26, horizontal straps 23 and a transversely extending portion 62 interposed between rubber spring units 36, 28. The forward unit 36 is held compressed between the yoke portion 62 and the follower 46 which abuts the rear face 52 of the coupler shank 24 and the rearward unit 38 is held compressed between the yoke portion 62 and the follower 68 thereby taking up a free movement of the drawgear between the stops 14 and 16. In buff the forward and rearward units 36, 38 are compressed by the coupler end face 52 which acts on the follower 46, movement of the key 26 with respect to the yoke being accommodated by slots 27. In draught forward unit 36 only is compressed by the action of yoke portion 62. An arrangement suitable for use with a swivel butt type of couplers shank and yoke connection is also described.
