Abstract

708,215. Rubber springs. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. June 19, 1952 [June 23, 1951], No. 15446/52. Class 108(3) . A cushioning pad for a rubber spring unit comprises a plate 10 having a rubber cushion 12 of ring-like shape secured to at least one of its sides, portions 22 of the cushion being of less width than that of adjacent portions 20, the sides of the cushion sloping gradually upwardly from the surface of the plate, the thickness at the crest of the portions 22 being less than the thickness at the crest of the portions 20. The angle of slope of the portions 22 is about 32 degrees, and of the portions 20, is about 23 degrees. As applied to a coupling spring for a mine wagon. Fig. 5, six plates 10 are mounted under a precompression of 5000 lbs. between followers 36 on the shank 16 of a coupling member 44. The followers 36 abut stops 40, 42 rigid with the wagon frame. Each rubber cushion is designed to provide a compression of 45 per cent. Characteristic curves are given of the cushioning pad and the complete spring unit. Specification 686,211 is referred to.
