Abstract

1375009 Combined buffing and draw gear for railway vehicles ITALSIDER SpA 21 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 59385/71 Heading B7T [Also in Division F2] In a shock-absorbing arrangement for a combined buff-and-draw coupling for rail vehicles, having a coupler stem D, Figs. 4, 5, pivoted on a pin E, there are two resilient devices (in spaces Aa, Ad) each comprising a helical spring with friction elements, a volute or liquid spring, or a set of rubber-metal platelike elements, separated by a follower plate F in a cage formed by two interfitting and relatively movable yokes Ca, Cd; the follower plate F (e.g. located by two projections G in slots between the beams L of upper and lower pairs of beams of the front yoke Ca) is slidable in the yokes being guided in the back yoke Cd by lugs T located in slots in four limbs I extending from a back plate (rear follower) Bd of that yoke, which locates on shoulders Vd on a vehicle-sill; a front follower Ba, for the front end of the front resilient device, slidable in the front yoke Ca and having side projections for location on shoulders Va on the centre-sill. Each end of the pivot pin E is retained against the head of yoke Ca by a bearing block P, Fig. 5, urged by at least one spring M extending between the block and a socket S. The blocks P and sockets S are slidably guided on ribs H on opposite beams L of the yoke. Keys K located in slots Q, Fig. 8c, in the ribs H provide back stops for the sockets S so that the springs M are precompressed. Under traction, the front resilient device in space Aa is compressed. Under compression, the two resilient devices in both spaces Aa, Ad are compressed. The rubber-metal elements of the resilient devices may be of irregular hexagonal outline or shaped to have projections for contacting the limbs of the back yoke Ca, Figs. 10A, 10B (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,029,368.
