Abstract
752,962. Rubber springs. MINER, Inc., W. H. May 31, 1954 [June 8, 1953], No. 16085/54. Class 108 (3). In a shock-absorbing mechanism comprising friction shoes C telescoped in the open end of a casing A, and a resilient column of rubber cushioning units D, each comprising a pair of metal plates 27, 28, between which is located a rubber pad 30, one of the plates 27, 28 is panshaped having a rigid peripheral flange slidingly fitting the interior of the casing A. As shown, the flange of the plate 28 of one unit D embraces the flat plate and part of the pad 30, of the adjacent unit. The units are registered by interengaging projections and recesses 32, 33. The projections 32 of the outermost plate 28 engage corresponding recesses in a load-applying member E. Recesses 33 in the outermost flat plate 27 at the other end of the spring, engage corresponding projections in a backing member F. The units D are placed under load by a wedge member B which acts via the friction shoes C and the member E.
