Abstract

1,036,012. Two part couplings. J. VIELMETTER. March 22, 1963 [March 24, 1962], No. 11547/63. Heading H2E. A cable coupling for railway vehicles comprises two identical members each consisting of a compressed air cylinder 7, the piston 9 of which is connected to a rocker member 13, one end of which is connected through an intermediate lever 15, and cylinder 17, to an insulating element 19 accommodating two contact sockets 29, each housing two contact rings 25 and 27, and the other end of which is connected through lever 37, to a second insulating element 39, carrying rigid contact pins 41, and capable of movement relative to the first insulating element 19. The first and second insulating elements are movable with the piston within the housing 1. Disposed in contact sockets 29, are insulating pins 45, which can be retracted against the force of compression spring 43. On the front side the element 19 is covered by a rubber plate 49, which has small openings in front of sockets 29, and pins 41. Tension springs 51, extend from both ends of rocker member 13, to closure wall 3. When the two members are mated compressed air is forced into cylinder 7 and piston 9, is forced forward. The movement is transmitted to pins 41, which pass through plate 49, and into sockets 29 of the second member, forcing the insulating pins 45 of the second member to retract.
