Abstract

890,423. Spring buffers; combined buffing and draw gear for railway vehicles. SCHARFENBERGKUPPLUNG G.m.b.H. March 2, 1960 [March 2, 1959], No. 7429/60. Classes 103(5) and 108(3). A push and pull load transmitting device comprises first and second spring means 5 and 6 in series between on the one hand first and second abutments 13, 16 carried in fixed relation to one another on a first part 4 through which pulsion forces are applied to the spring system, and on the other hand third and fourth abutments 15, 9 carried in fixed relation to one another on a second part 1 through which traction forces are applied to the system, the arrangement being such that under pulsion forces up to a predetermined force spring means 5 only is stressed after which both spring means 5 and 6 are stressed whereas under traction forces spring means 6 only is stressed. in the embodiment shown a pair of helical springs 5 is mounted between bearing elements 12, 11 and helical spring 6 between bearing elements 7, 8 the elements 8, 11 being formed as flanges on connected sleeves 10, 8a surrounding traction rod 1. Under traction forces the springs 5 are compressed between elements 12, 11 as traction rod 1 moves to the right relative to tubular member 2. Under pulsion forces member 2 moves to the right relative to traction rod 1 compressing springs 5 between bearing elements 12, 11 I until shoulder 14 within the member 2 contacts collar 7 when spring 6 also is compressed.
