Abstract

1,099,964. Railway vehicle underframes. SOC. ANON. USINES EMILE HENRICOT. March 15, 1965 [April 23, 1964], No. 10807/65. Heading B7L. In a railway vehicle underframe a central automatic coupler 31, Fig. 1, is carried by a cast steel reticulate and triangulated component 10 so that draft and buff forces are transmitted from the coupler to load carrying underframe beams 2, 3 on or near the centre lines of the side buffers 4, 5 and axle box guides (not shown). The component 10 comprises tubular rectangular box section beams 11 to 15 and cross-pieces 17, 18, the latter forming with the beams 15, 16 a recess 21 to receive the coupler cushioning device 22. The beams 11, 12 and 13, 14 are connected respectively to the ends of the beams 15, 16 and converge into end pieces 19, 20. A free space 27 in the component facilitates movements of the coupler link 28. The cushioning device 22 abuts shoulders, e.g. 23, 24, at the ends of the recess 21. The component is welded to underframe cross-strip 6, 7, stringers 8, 9 and at 19, 20 to members 36, 38 and 37, 39 on a header bar 1 adjacent the buffers 4, 5 and the beams 2, 3. The header is provided with a central opening (35), Fig. 3 (not shown), to permit vertical and horizontal movements of the coupler tail 42 which passes therethrough. In a modification described with reference to Fig. 12 (not shown), a coupler having a tail, formed as a piston and cylinder with an elastic element therebetween is pivoted to the component 10 adjacent the end formed with the cross-piece 18.
