Abstract

722,309. Combined buffer and draw-gear. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. March 15, 1951 [Sept. 1, 1950], No. 23807/53. Divided out of 703,638. Class 103 (5). A combined buffer and draw-gear has a group of pads 411 forming the main cushioning unit held compressed between the rear follower 431 engaging the rear stop-lugs 402, and the forward follower 414 which has loop portions 414c, carrying transverse members 414e engaging the forward stop lugs 404. A compensating cushioning unit 410 is held compressed between the forward follower 414 and the compensating follower' 423 which abuts, against the coupler shank 407 keyed to the yoke 406 by key 409. In buff the follower 423 is engaged by the coupler shank 407 to compress both sets of pads whereas in draft the yoke 406 engages follower 431 to compress unit 411 against the follower 414 abutting the front stop lugs 404.
