Abstract
1430858 Rail vehicle draw gear MIDLANDROSS CORP 6 Dec 1973 [15 Jan 1973] 56647/73 Heading B7T A combined buffing and draft gear for a rail vehicle, comprises: a housing 10, Fig. 1, which is open at its rear end and which includes a pair of spaced vertical walls 16 and a pair of spaced horizontal walls 12, 14, the vertical walls 16 extending rearwardly of the rear ends of the horizontal walls 12, 14 and having inwardly extending flanges 17 providing forwardly facing abutment surfaces 17a; a closure plate 18 which closes the open rear end of the housing and which has side flanges 18a disposed adjacent the housing flanges 17; and keys 30 which are positioned between the plate flanges 18a and the housing flanges 17 and which are prevented from moving downwardly by shelves 14b of the housing and prevented from moving upwardly by welded-on plates 40. In use the gear fits in a pocket having sills 34, front draft stops 34a, and rear buffing stops 34b. Buffing and draft forces are transmitted to the gear through a yoke 38 and a follower 36. Buffing forces are transmitted by the plate 18 to the stops 34b through pads 26, friction shoes 22, and a wedge 20. Each of the shelves 14b is provided with a notch (42), Fig. 5 (not shown), which facilitates insertion of a tool for removing the respective key.
