Couplings, automatic. - An automatic coupling of the pivoted-knuckle type is adapted for coupling with another type of coupling by means of a pivoted auxiliary part which can be removed or swung aside when two couplings of the pivoted-knuckle type are to be coupled. The auxiliary part g is pivoted at m to the knuckle h and at z to the guard arm t and has a buffing face w and a hook-engaging ledge v to suit, say, a pivoted-hook coupling d. The auxiliary part g is provided with projections n. p, Fig. 1, adapted to bear on the end of the knuckle h to relieve the pin m from buffing stresses. The auxiliary part is secured in an out-of-use position by means of the pin m inserted in the pinhole in a bracket r.
