Abstract
237,546. National Malleable & Steel Castings Co., (Assignees of Willison, J.). July 24, 1924, [Convention date]. Couplings, automatic; couplings, automatic, convertible to non-automatic.-In a transitional coupling mechanism for connecting together couplers of different types in which a vertically movable pivoted transitional coupling member can be swung into a slot in the buffing face of one of the couplers, means are provided to close the forward end of the slot when the transitional member is in non-operative position, to prevent interference in coupling with a like coupler. The link 17 of the non-automatic coupling member pivots on a bolt 12 in the automatic coupler head A, a slot being made in the buffing face and underside of the coupler A to permit horizontal and vertical positions of the non-automatic coupler to be attained. A block 10, pivoted to the bolt 12, overlaps the link 17 so that it is raised and lowered with the link. When the non-automatic coupling is out of use the block 10 is supported on a ledge 27 and fills the gap in the buffing face of the coupler A, and abutments 25, Fig. 2, and 28, Fig. 4, on the coupler head contact with abutments 24, Fig. 2, and 26, Fig. 4, on the block 10 to absorb the buffing shocks. Actuating means 13 for the sliding lock 7 is also pivoted on the bolt 12. Specification 9622/12 is referred to.
