Abstract

217,824. Mitchell, J., and Cossey, J. C. G. Oct. 16, 1923. Combined buffer and draw-gear comprises a cylindrical member, to which the draw-bar is pivotally connected, adapted to rock in a socket provided in the coupler head, and a ferrule abutting against the rear end of the socket and enclosing one end of the draw-bar and transmitting the buffing stresses to a spring disposed in a casing secured to the longitudinals or other fixed parts of the frame. The head of the draw-bar 4 is pivoted by a pin 6 to a cylindrical member 3, as described in Specification 198,263, and works in a socket 2 of the coupler head. A ferrule 11 encloses. the draw-bar and bears against the coupler head and the follower plate 28 of the buffing and draw-spring 12, as described in Specification 185,602. A light spring 20 on the end of the draw-bar may be used to take up the light draught stresses and assist in centralizing the coupler head 1 in a manner similar to that described in Specification 204,644.
