Abstract

185,602. Mitchell, J., and Cossey, J. C. G. Aug. 6, 1921. Combined buffer and draw - gear. - In a central coupling, a separate member interposed between the coupler head and the draw-bar permits relative deflexion in two planes mutually at right-angles between these parts and a ferrule or the like surrounding one part of the separate member transmits the buffing stresses. Between the draw-bar C and the coupler head A, Fig. 1, is interposed a member F to which they are secured by pins M, L respectively mutually at right-angles. A combined buffing and draw-spring D surrounds the draw-bar C and abuts at one end, a ferrule N sliding in a squared hole in the casing O and at the other a ferrule H sliding in a removable washer K. A light spring G on the tail of the rod C may be used to centralize the head A against the ferrule N in the manner shown in Specification 26753/10 and also to take light draught stresses until the ferrules H and I abut. In buffing, the stress is transmitted directly from the head A to the spring D through the ferrule N. The intermediate member F mav have two elongated holes L<1>, L<2>, at each end, Fig. 4.
