Draw-gear; couplings, automatic, coravertible to non-automatic. - In a supporting device for the automatic coupling-head of a transition coupler for railway vehicles of the kind claimed in the parent Specification, the head, in addition to being supported on the drawbar or draw-hook by means which transmit tractive forces only, is held in a central position by rodding pivotally connected under spring influence at one end with the coupling-head and at the other end with the vehicle underframe, such thrust rodding being capable itself of a resilient extension and contraction. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3 the coupler-head 1 is pivotally connected at 26 with the draw-bar 27 through the medium of a plate 6<1>, while the connection to the underframe comprises a pair of telescopic pivoted tubes 2, 3 fitted with internal springs and united by a yoke 5, 5<1> working in eyes 9 on arms 17 fixed to a transverse rotatable shaft 15. During traction the telescopic tubes 2, 3 are extended simultaneously with the compression of the draw-gear springs, while small shocks cause a pivotal movement of the tubes about the axis 11. When it is desired to use the non-automatic screw coupling, the coupler-head and supporting-members may be swung down together by operating a handle 28 on the shaft 15. To give further resilience to the supporting arrangement a spring 24 may be located between the tubes 2, 3 and extensions 21 of the arms 17. In a modification, Fig. 4, the connection to the draw-bar 27 comprises tension bolts 6<11> and pivoted links 7<11>, while the connection to the underframe comprises pivoted links 5<11> movable in elongated eyes 19 at the ends of the telescopic tubes 2, 3, which are mounted on fixed brackets 20. In further modifications the links 5<11> of the last construction are replaced by jointed links, and the upper support is from a draw-hook, the telescopic tubes 2, 3 being either fixed to or pivoted on underframe brackets.
