Machine guns. - Firing-mechanism adapted to fire limited bursts of shots comprises a toothed wheel 13 rotated step-by-step by a cranked lever 18 actuated by an inclined surface 20 on the breech-block and acting on a sear-actuating lever 12, 15 pivoted on the trigger which is held completely pulled during the firing of a burst. As shown, the wheel 13 is mounted on the trigger pivot 10. The sear-actuating lever has a forward lug 14 for actuating the sear in the ordinary way when the trigger is pulled for firing the first shot of the. burst. To adjust the mechanism for firing one shot at a time, the cranked lever is moved out of engagement with the wheel 13. The number of teeth on the wheel is equal to, or is a multiple of, the number of slots in the burst and the last tooth of the series is narrower than the others so that it does not act on the sear-releasing lever. The striker is composed of two parts 3, 5. The outer part has a lug engaging a helicoidal notch in the breech-block and cannot advance until the breech-block is closed. It thus acts as a safety device.
