Abstract

194,040. White, W. A. Dec. 29, 1921. Nozzles for producing whirling sprays; strainers arrangement of.-The spray burner described in Specification 1439/14 is provided with means to strain the oil immediately before delivery. In the construction illustrated a spring-pressed nozzle plug 15 having a conical face is pressed by a spring 22 against the internally-coned end of the burner tube 10 or a cap 12 on the burner tube 10. The nozzle plug fits the bore of the burner tube at its front and rear ends, and between its ends is formed with an apertured reduced portion 18. Oil fed to the burner tube is strained by passing through sawcuts or perforations in the reduced portion 18 into the surrounding annular chamber 17 and then passes through channels 25 in the end of the plug and tangential grooves or channels 16 in the conical face to a central delivery orifice 13 in the cap 12. Means may be provided to prevent the rotation of the nozzle plug in the burner tube. In a modification the nozzle plug is of uniform diameter throughout and the bore of the burner tube is enlarged around the apertured portion of the nozzle plug to form the annular chamber through which the oil passes to the delivery orifice.
