Abstract
322,257. Farrow, P., and Canning Town Glass Works, Ltd. Sept. 10, 1928. Spray burners.-In a burner of the type in which liquid fuel is atomized by air passing through the slotted or apertured wall of a chamber before issuing from the nozzle orifice, the fuel pipe projects so far into the chamber as to liberate the fuel at the point where the air is leaving the chamber. In the burner shown, the air supplied through a pipe 14, passes through gaps 3 in a plug 1 and enters a chamber 5 through tangential slots 6a. A nozzle 12, connected to the fuel pipe 13, discharges the fuel at the point where the air is leaving the chamber 5 and atomization occurs in the nozzle orifice 8, and a divergent passage 9, in a cap 7, arranged between the nozzle 2 and the plug 1. The cap 7 is slotted for the supply of additional air to the mixture, the slots 6 being radial or tangential according to whether a long or short flame is required. A fan-shaped flame may be obtained by partially slotting the cap. In burners of small size, the cap may be dispensed with or consist of a washer. The shape of the flame may also be varied by altering the shape or size of the nozzle orifice 8. Additional air may be supplied to the chambers by making the bore 4, of the plug 1, larger than the nozzle 12.
