Abstract
315,252. Filma. Oil Burners, Ltd., and Marsden, A. April 10, 1928. Spray burners.-A liquid-fuel burner comprises a tube 1 provided with a tapered nozzle 2, formed with a transverse slit 3 through which oil is forced under slight pressure, a substantially cylindrical metal housing 4 which surrounds the tube 1 and is provided with an end-plate 6 having a tapered rectangular opening 7 through which compressed air is discharged in two converging streams so as to impinge upon and atomize the film or ribbon of oil issuing from the nozzle 2, and a combustion chamber consisting of a gauze cone 9 and a perforated metal extension 11 carried by a cylinder 12 supported by a spider 10. The tube 1 may be adjusted in the rousing 4 by rotating a nut 15 arranged between the housing and a stirrup 16, rotation of the tube being prevented by a projection 17 engaging in a groove 18. A sparking plug for igniting the fuel may be carried in an aperture 14 in one of the spider arms. The atomized fuel forms a slow moving cloud moving through the combustion chamber, any fuel particles deposited on the walls of the combustion chamber being taken by the air passing through the perforations. When large quantities of oil are to be burnt the combustion chamber may be slowly rotated so that the deposited oil is maintained as an even film on its wall.
