Abstract

294,577. Major, S. E., and Baker, E. F. July 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Spray burners.-A liquid fuel burner comprises a casing C containing an axially slidable fuel supply tube 4 carrying at its reduced end an atomizing cup 1 fitted with a propeller 5 which is rotated by air at low pressure entering at an inlet 8 and passing to the propeller past a valve 9 carried by the tube 4. The tube 4 is moved axially against the resistance of a spring 16 by a rod 14 operated by means of a cam 17 engaging a boss 20 on the end closure cap 13 of the casing. The movement of the fuel supply tube regulates the escape of air from the casing by adjusting the discharge aperture 21 between the cup 1 and the casing nozzle. The casing nozzle is formed by a perforated tapering annular projection 26 and a circular apertuned plate 27 enclosing an annular recess 25. The oil enters the cup from the tube 4 through a hollow screw 24. To relieve the end thrust on the propeller the space behind a plate 33 loosely fitting in a recess 32 in the valve 9 is connected to the atmosphere by a tube 31. Radial baffle plates may be arranged in the casing to deflect the air leaving the propeller before it issues from the outlet 21. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the oil may be delivered directly into the cup through a supply tube passing through the side of the casing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
