Abstract
194,032. Shadbolt, R. Dec. 22, 1921. PortiÞre rods adapted to raise and draw aside the curtain when the door is opened. A cord attached to the curtain passes over a single pulley or roller at the bracket end and over a compound pulley at the free end in order to multiply the movement of the operating-cord. As shown in Fig. 16, the rod may be carried by a single bracket 0. The operating-cord, fixed at one end to the door-'bracket h, passes several times round the smaller pulley of the compound pulley e, Fig. 4, and through a hole l in the flange of the larger pulley. It then passes through the rod, over the roller r, and is attached to the curtain at t. The dotted line s<1> shows the curtain in its normal position, and the dotted line s<2> its portion when the door is open. In a modification, the rod may be in two parts hinged together, in which case one part is fixed to a bracket on the door frame, and the roller r may be replaced by a larger pulley. The larger pulley of the compound pulley e may be replaced by a lever arm, and when a solid hinged rod is used the hinge may carry rollers or pulleys to guide the cord.
