Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-In a vertical retort furnace having horizontal combustion flues at the sides of and between the retorts, vertical partitions c are provided, as shown in sectional plan in Fig. 1, in each combustion flue to form an intermediate passage c<3>, to which the heating-gases are delivered, and side passages c<1>, through which the gases return on their way to the exhaust flues Gas is supplied to the combustion flues through burner pipes d, and air from a recuperator is admitted through vertical flues f and damper-controlled ports g. Angular damper blocks c<2> are provided to control the flow of heating-gases between the passages c', c<1>. Specification 20,457/14 is referred to.
