Abstract

3994. British Northrop Loom Co., [Northrop Loom Co.]. March 13. Weft, cutting; weft-replenishing mechanism. -The weft is parted by the abrasive action of two surfaces, one on the shuttle and another on a co-operative part attached to the loom. Adherent means are provided for catching the parted end of the thread. A cylindrical steel abrading-surface .43, Fig. 4, on the shuttle 41 on the lay 1, Fig. 1, is brought into contact with a similar surface 29 on a slide 27, and the broken thread is caught by an adherent surface 31, Figs. 1 and 2, built up of washers of felt &c. The part 27 carrying the abrading-member 29, Fig. 1, slides in a lever 20, which is pivoted on a pin 12 and rocked by another lever 24, integral with it, operated by the usual levers 17, 16 connected with the weft-replenishing mechanism. The slide 27 is also retracted by a lever 33 engaging a pin 34 on the slide. The lever 33 is pivoted to a pin 35 on the lever 20 and connected with a spring 37, Fig. 2, thereupon. On movement of the lever 20, a part 39 on the lever 33 contacts with a fixed part 40 on the loom. The usual shuttle feeler 10 is pivoted at 12 and connected by a slotted lever 14 with a dog 4 pivoted to the depending arm of the transferrer 5. The shuttle feeler carries a pin (not shown) which alines with the pin in the outer end of the lever 24 so as to engage the pivoted levers 17, 16.
