Abstract

349,177. Weft-feeler arrangements for looms. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Crompton & Knowles Loom Works ; Worcester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) March 11, 1930, No. 7874. [Class 142 (iii).] Automatic weft replenishing mechanism for looms for weaving double pile fabrics is augmented by the provision of a device which is positively actuated in part by the shuttle to be replenished when in correct longitudinal position for transfer, to set the transfer mechanism in operative condition, the weft detector only ensuring a preliminary setting of said mechanism. A weft feeler or detector 17, Fig. 1, mounted on the breast beam 13, is rocked when the weft is substantially exhausted and moves a control wire 20 into a position below the end of a lever 23, Fig. 3, thereby forming a pivot for the latter when it is lowered by a reciprocating bar 22 having a twostage downward movement. The lever 23 engages a pin 29 on a control lever 27 which is connected by a cord 33 to a detector lever 55, Fig. 5, mounted on the other side of the loom, and during the first part of its downward movement allows the lever 55 to be rocked by a spring 57, thereby compressing a second spring 53 associated with the device. During the second movement of the bar 22, which occurs during the second beat-up when the shuttle is on the magazine side of the loom, the control lever 27 is depressed still further, and the spring 53 gives a rocking movement to an indicator transmitter 50 to bring the inclined face 59 into the path of a finger 60 on a pivoted shuttle feeler 61 mounted on the lay. As the lay advances, a screw 64 on the shuttle feeler is pushed through an opening in the shuttle box until it is stopped by engagement with a correctly positioned shuttle, whereupon a rocking anticlockwise movement is given to the transmitter 50, which moves a push wire into contact with a, hook 45 on a reciprocative actuator 44, causing it to engage a lug 48 on an actuating lever 43 associated with the transfer slide 41, which transfers a bobbin from the magazine into the shuttle. If the shuttle is not properly placed, the spring 53 will resist expansion, and as a result the shuttle feeler will rock on its pivot, the screw 64 passing beyond the front of the shuttle box and the wire 49 and hook 45 remaining as shown in Fig. 5 to prevent transfer.
