Abstract

500,172. Looms with automatic weft replenishment. CROMPTON & KNOWLES LOOM WORKS. Aug. 3, 1938, No. 22920. Convention date, Feb. 26. [Class 142 (iii)] Shuttles, changing bobbins and other weft carriers in, automatically.-The latch 18 pivoted to the transferrer hammer 19 is lifted into position to be operated by the lay dagger 17 by a rod 71 having a yieldable connection 73 with its operating lever. This connection comprises two jaws 73, 78, the former notched at 74 and the latter straight-faced and pivoted to the jaw 73, towards which it is drawn by a spring 77. When the weft feeler 46 indicates shortage of weft the electromagnet 42 couples a normally stationary lever 32 to a lever 38 oscillated by a cam 36 on the bottom shaft 35. The various parts are then in the positons shown, and the lever 32 lifts the rod 71 to move a lever 64, and so bring the latch 18 and the shuttle feeler 66 into operative positions determined by the stop pin &c. 90, 91. The lever 32 continues to rise and forces its pin 80 out of the notch 74 into the position 75 between two parallel jaw faces. From this position the pin is displaced to the position 76 by the exertion of a very small force which may be due to the feeler 66 contacting with a shuttle before the latch 18 and dagger 17 engage thus revoking bobbin transfer, or due to a dagger 93 coming in contact with the lever 64 after the latch and dagger having engaged, in which case transfer will take place. On the fall of the lever 32 after the lever 64 is arrested by the stops 90, 92, the pin 80 will be lowered into the notch 74 again. Specification 485,884 is referred to.
