Abstract

507,872. Looms with automatic weft replenishment. CROMPTON & KNOWLES LOOM WORKS, and TURNER, R. G. Aug. 2, 1938, No. 22838. [Class 142 (iii)] A change-box loom has a bobbin magazine M which is normally stationary but at indication of weft failure can be rocked about its pivot 60 to bring its proper compartment over the shuttle box 15 for direct transfer of a bobbin. A lever 41, mounted on a bracket 46 fixed to a shaft 25 on which two other levers 23, 26 are pivoted, is connected by a cable 43 to the change box at the other end of the loom. The top end of the lever 41 moves a hook 48, connected with, the magazine through links &c. 49, 65, into and out of gear with a pin 27 on the lever 26. The lever 41 also moves, through a rod 47, one or other of the fingers 29, 30 into line with a projection 31 on the lever 23 and when the feeler D indicates weft failure the electro-magnet 28 rocks the fingers 29, 30 into engagement with the projection 31, and the lever 23 which is oscillated by a cam 21 on the low shaft 20 oscillates the lever 26 also. The magazine M is then either left in its normal stationary position or moved against the action of the spring 170 into its other position according as the hook 48 is out of or in engagement with the pin 27 on the lever 26. The lever 26 also lifts a rod 32 to set the latch 124 ready for operation by the hunter 126. The latch 124 is pivoted at 123 to the transferrer hammer 120 which is pivoted at 35 and lifted by a spring 157. The latch 124 is connected to the rod 32 by a slotted link 132, a lever 134, and a cam block 148 having a spaced hook 147 and shoulder 150 near its top. A bell-crank 137 fixed to the same pivot 135 as the lever 134 is connected with the shuttle feeler 143 and with a spring toggle 139. When the lever 26 raises the rod 32 the shoulder 150 engages the pin 146 and sets the latch 124 but the cam 155 and a pin 156 on the hammer lever 120 push the hook 147 out of engagement with the pin 146. If the shuttle boxes, bobbin transfer takes place, but if the shuttle fails to box the feeler 143 displaces the levers 137 and 134 and lowers the latch 124, the slotted link 132 and the disengagement of the hook 147 and pin 146 permitting this. When the rod 32 is lowered the spring 152 re-engages the hook and pin 147, 146 when the cams 160, 155 allow. The magazine M is normally held in position determined by stops 166, 166 by a spring I70, and is moved when necessary into a position determined by stops 167, 168 by the lever 26 and link 65 which contains a spring coupling 66 stronger than the spring 170. The bobbins have flattened spindles which co-operate with ledges on the spring held supports 92, 99 at the bottoms of the magazine chambers to position the bobbins ready for entry into the shuttle S. These supports 92, 99 at the tip ends of the bobbins move about pivots 93, 100 against the action of springs 94, 100. The supports 105, 112 for the head enda of the bobbins move about pivots 108, 114 against the action of springs 109, 115 at transfer.
