Abstract

488,167. Automatic shuttle-changing mechanism. TRIGGS, W. W. (Crompton & Knowles Loom Works) Jan. 12, 1937, No. 1292/38. Divided out of 485,884. [Class 142 (iii)] The mechanism is the same as that described in Specification 485,884 but the claims differ. Claims 1 and 2 refer to a shuttle receiving support 220 extending rearwardly from a rear wall 2 of the lay and extending forwardly at 235 over the rear wall 233 of the upper and lower boxes 230, 231 at the magazine end. Other claims refer to the shuttle transferring mechanism. Before transfer, the boxes are raised as shown in dotted lines, a cover 236 for the upper box being raised by the engagement of a lug thereon with a stationary cam on the magazine. A fresh shuttle, which has been released from one of the magazine compartments, so as to fall on to the support 220, is now fed forwards into the box 230 by an advancer head 217 on connected arms 214 pivoted on a fixed stud 209 carrying an actuator arm 208, which actuates the arms 214 by means of a spring 215 and carries a pin 210 extending into a slot in a cam-controlled arm 204. Normally the arm moves idly over the pin, but when the weft feeler mechanism indicates substantial exhaustion of weft, a solenoid is energized and in due course a rod 152 is raised. A lifting pin 221 raises the arm 204, so that it now operates the arm 208 and consequently the arms 214. A guide rod 218 extending through a guide eye 219 is carried by the head 217. The spent shuttle is received in the lower box 231 and when the boxes are again lowered into normal weaving position the shuttle is ejected, a stationary shuttle binder 232 being used. The cover 236 has a rib 234 to align with the wall 233, the cover and rib being notched at 237 to permit raising thereof without interfering with the overhang 235.
