In the usual multicolor weft replenishing loom the reserve bobbins are arranged 1n 7 separate stacks and mechanism is employed to advance a bobbin corresponding in color or kind to the depleted running weft by means of a device common to the controllers for the several stacks. This means has ordinarily taken the form of a rocking shaft one end of which controls the transferrer dog or latch and the other of which is connected to the shuttle feeler. As ordinarily made the shaft rocks positively in both directions, but
these positive movements cannot be communicated both to the shuttle feeler and the latch because the times of operations of these two devices are different. The shuttle feeler acts to rock the shaft before the lay reaches front center if the shuttle is misplaced, thereby resetting the magazine prior to the beginning of the transferring period of the loom cycle. If the shuttle is properly positioned, however, it is necessary that the latch remain in transferring position until it can be engaged by the hunter to effect transfer, completion of which ordinarily does not occur until the lay is at front center.
During the period allotted to transfer and for a substantially equal period subsequent to the completion of transfer the latch is operatively related to the bunter and is there fore notfree to return to normal position when the rocking shaft is restored to normal position at the completion of the transfer period. In other words, the shuttle feeler acts through the intermediary of a misplaced shuttle or a lay carried abutment such as a box back to restore the magazine and the rocking shaft to normal non-transfer position at a point no later than front center of a transferring beat of the loom, but the latch remains in contact with the lay for a time after this period. It is this fact which has ordinarily prevented the positive operation Serial No. 583,295.

It is an important object of my present invention to provide means for maintaining positive connections between the rocking shaft and the transfer latch, or between the shuttle feeler and the latch during the revoking interval which precedes the transfer interval in the ordinary cycle of the loom, and to provide means for breaking this connection in time to permit the shuttle feeler to reset the rocking shaft or magazine while the latch still remains in contact with the bunter. The mechanism which I have provided ordinarily causes a relative movemont between the latch and the connections between the same and the shuttle feeler, and it is a further object of my present invention to overcome the effect of this relative movement at a time subsequent to the completion of the transfer so that the magazine will be set as a whole before another transfer can be called. This last result I achieve as set forth herein by making use of the second beat of the lay to restore the latch to its normal relation with respect to the connections.
It is to be understood that multicolor magazines are so constructed that a transfer can happen only on alternate beats of the lay, the shuttle on the intervening beats being at that side of the loom opposite the magazine and therefore out of transfer position. The beat immediately following transfer is therefore not used so far as transferring operations are concerned, and I employ this beat to effect the resetting of the latch in respect to its connections In this respect it is a further object of my invention to provide the transferrer latch with a resetting cam which moves toa position to be engaged by the lay as a result of the breaking of the connections between the latch and the shuttle feeler.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a two part yielding lock for the transferring latch which is so constructed and related to the lay that the latter separates the parts to permit relative and independent movement of the latch and said parts.
With these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.

Referring to the drawings, I have shown a loom frame 10 which supports a multicolor magazine M having means to define several vertical stacks or compartments 11 down which the bobbins not shown move toward transfer position. A top rocking shaft 12 has secured thereto a rear lever 13 connected to the upper end of a rod 1d. The lower end of the rod is connected as at 15 to a shuttle feeler 16 pivoted as at 17 to a portion of the magazine frame. The shuttle feeler extends forwardly and has an inclined surface 18 of usual form to engage the shuttle S if the lattor is misplaced, or the her; back or other lay carried abutment 19 if transfer be normal. The usual. color slide or selector C, Fig. 7, has lingers F to cooperate with the vertical actuator slides A for the top shaft. Each slide has a dog D to cause right hand rocking of the shaft 12 when the dog is lowered by a finger acting through the corresponding vertical slide.
The transferrer arm 20 is pivoted as at 21 to a fixed part of the magazine and has a depending arm 22 pivotally connected to a latch holder 23. The latter has secured adjustably thereto latch 2a provided with a notch 25 to be entered by a hunter 26 on the lay to effect transfer. Grdinarily the latch hangs down as shown in Fig. 1 so that the hunter passes thereover. The lay L which carries the bunter moves back and forth, that is, toward and from the latch in the normal running of the loom. The forward end of the shaft 12 has secured thereto a lever 30 pivotally connected to the upper end of a latch controlling rod 31.
The matter thus far described, except for the particular form of latch and holder therefor, may be formed as usual and operate in the ordinary manner. Prior to transfer and as the result of an indication of weft exhaustion by the weft detector not shown the shaft 12 will be rocked in such a direction as to lower the shuttle feeler and at the same time impart a downward movement to the rod 31. This connection sets the magazine for transfer and if the shuttle is properly positioned the hunter enters the notch 25 so that a transferring force can be transmitted from the lay through the latch, latch holder, and arm 22, to the transferrer arm 20. During the latter part of the transfer operation the box back 19 engages the inclined surface 18 to raise the shuttle feeler and restore the same to nor- 1nal position. Should the shuttle be misplaced, however, it will be moved by the advancing lay against the inclined surface 18 to lift the shuttle feeler before the hunter has an opportunity to enter notch 25. I have not shown the detailed mechanism for yieldingly locking the shuttle feeler either in normal or transferring position, since these form no part of my present invention and may be as shown in Patent- No. 1,785,688.
In carrying my invention into effect, I provide an improved form of connection between the rod 31 and the latch holder, this connection comprising essentially a yielding; lock made of two parts 220 and 11, respectively. The part may have a hub 12 into which is threaded the lower end of the rod 31 and may also have a finger 43 to support the forward end of a tension spring H. The rear end of the latter attached to a finger 45 formed on the other member 41 so that said spring acts normally to move the member 11 in a counter-clockwise direction around the stud 46 carried by the member 10 and on which the member 4-1 pivots.
The members 40 and 41 are formed so as to define between them a slot 47 through which extends a stop -18 fixed to the magazine frame. A washer 49 may be retained in position on the stop by a cotter pin 50 and serves to prevent movement of the member 40 in a direction parallel to the lay and away from the latch holder. The stop 48 is positioned to engage and limit forward movement of the member 40.
The lower end of member 40 is provided with a head 51 extending under the stop 4-8 and having formed therein a slot 52 which is horizontal and open at its left hand side viewed in Fig. 1. The lower end of the memher ll has a surface 53, however, which extends across the slot 52 so as in effect to close the same and provide a pocket for a stud 54- extending laterally from the latch holder 23. This stud is proportioned to slide forwardly in the slot 52 and to engage the surface 53. The lower ends of the members are formed as shown in Fig. 1 to define a notch converging upwardly, said notch preferably having one side thereof 56 which is formed either as an arc around the pivotal connection 57 be tween the latch and the arm 22, or as a tangent to such an arc.
In operation, assuming that a shuttle is improperly positioned, the advancing lay will cause the shuttle to raise the shuttle feeler, thereby imparting upward movement to the rod 14 to effect rocking of shaft 12 and raise rod 31. Because of the fact that the head 51 on the lock member 40 has a part extending under the stud 54, the latter will be given an upward movement to rock the latch and holder therefor about the axis 57. In this way revocation of transfer is rendered positive and assurance is given that the downward movement of the latch will be in proportion to the speed of the loom, instead of responsive merely to gravity as has been the case heretofore.
If transfer is normal, however, the dog 26 will enter the notch 25 and rock the transfer arm around the stud 21 to effect transfer. During the first part of the transfer the stud 54 will move to the left, or forwardly as viewed in Fi 1, with respect to the slot 52. The stop 48 acts to prevent the member 40 from moving forwardly at this time, and as the lay continues its advance the stud 54 will engage the surface 53 and move out of the slot 52, forcing the member 41 to the position shown in Fig. 2.
It is to be understood that during the latter part of the transfer operation the shuttle feeler will engage the boX or lay carried part 39 and rock shaft 12, thereby lifting the notch 52 away from the stud 54. The stud 54 moves out of the slot 52 before the shuttle feeler starts to reset the magazine.
As the lay starts back after transfer, spring 44 will cause the member 41 to follow stud 54, and the parts will ultimately assume the position shown in Fig. 8 with the latch held in an intermediate down position due to the fact that the stud 54 is held by the walls which define notch 55. When the latch is in this position, shown also in dotted lines in Fig. 4, a resetting cam formed as an inclined surface on the rear upper part of the latch lies in the path of the bunter 26. On the next forward beat of the lay the hunter engages said cam to depress the same, causing the latch and its holder to move in a clockwise direction around the pivot 57. The effect of this movement is to cause the stud 54 to spread the members temporarily until the said stud is in horizontal alignment with the slot 52, at which time the spring 44 will snap the member 41 back to normal position and cause the stud to enter the slot 52. In this way the connection between the shuttle feeler and the latch is reestablished on the beat following transfer and the parts are restored to their normal position preparatory to another transfer, which may occur on the next beat.
The revoking mechanism has been set forth in connection with the usual multicolor magazine and is rendered operative by any one of the vertical slides and the color slide C, since these parts are instrumental in rocking the top shaft or member 12.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided means for positively revoking the transfer by mechanism which is independent of gravity, so that in fast running looms the transfer latch is moved down quickly enough to clear the hunter on the advancing lay. It will also be seen that this result is achieved Without interfering with the normal operation of the shuttle feeler which is free to reset the magazine during the latter part of the transfer operation, the magazine being in normal restored position when the lay reaches front center on a transferring beat. Furthermore, the yielding lock interposed between the chain of connections between the latch and the shuttle feeler releases the shuttle feeler from the latch to permit the resetting of the magazine. Also, provision is made for resetting the latch and restoring the transfer mechanism proper to normal position at a period in theoperation of the loom subsequent to the completion of the transfer interval, such for instance, as on the next forward beat of the lay. The breaking of the connection is effected by a force derived from the advancing lay and the time of the break is therefore always in proper relation with respect to the time of transfer and magazine resetting, inasmuch as the lay accomplishes all three of these results.
Having thus described my invention it will be seen that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is:
1. In a weft replenishing loom having in its operation a revoking interval followed by a transferring period, a shuttle feeler movable from normal to shuttle feeling position prior to the revoking interval, a transfer mechanism having an element to be in transfer position during the revoking interval, connections effective during the revoking interval to transmit positively a force from the shuttle feeler to said element to move the latter positively out of transfer position, and means effective on a transferring beat of the loom to break said connection during the beginning of the transfer period, the shuttle feeler thereafter being movable independently of the element during said transfer period.
2. In a weft replenishing loom having in its operation a revoking interval followed by a transfer period. a shuttle feeler, transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, a member forming part of the weft replenishing mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, connections to cause the shuttle feeler and member to move together at all times, connections to cause the member and the transfer mechanism to move together positively during the revoking interval, and means to break the last named connection during the transfer period, the shuttle feeler and member being movable independently of the transfer mechanism during the transfer period because of the breaking of said last named connections.
3. In a weft replenishing loom having in its operation a revoking interval followed by a transfer period, a member movable from normal to transfer position to initiate transfer, a shuttle feeler, a shuttle, transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position by the member, means to cause the shuttle feeler and member to move together at all times, a yieldable connection between the member and the transfer mechanism effective during the revoking interval to transmit a positive force from the member to the transfer mechanism to move the latter out of transferring position when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means effective during the transfer period to break the connections, wh reby the shuttle feeler is movable to reset the member to normal position independently of the transfer mechanism.
4. In a weft replenishing loom having in its operation a revoking interval followed by a transfer period, a member movable from normal to transfer position to initiate transfer, a shuttle feeler, a shuttle, transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer posi tion. means to cause the shuttle feeler and m ember to move together at all times, a yieldable connection between the member and the transfer mechanism effective during the revoking interval to transmit a positive force from the member to the transfer mechanism to move the latter positively out of transferring position when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means actuated by the transfer mechanism and effective during the transfer period to break the connections, whereby the shuttle feeler is movable to reset the member independently of the transfer mechanism.
5. In a weft replenishing loom having in ts operation a revoking interval followed by a transfer period, a member movable from normal to transfer position to initiate transfer, a shuttle feeler, a shuttle, transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, means to cause the shuttle feeler and member to move together at all times, a yield able connection between the member and the transfer mechanism effective during the revoking interval to transmit a positive force from the member to the transfer mechanism to move the latter positively out of transferring position when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means effective during the transfer period to break the connections, whereby the shuttle feeler and member are movable to normal position independently of the transfer mechanism, said yieldable connection comprising two relatively movable parts and an element carried by the transfer mechanism to be held by said parts during the revoking interval when said parts are in one position, the element to be releasedby said parts when the latter are in a different position during the transferring period.
6. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay which moves successively through revoking and transferring periods, a shuttle feeler to engage a misplaced shuttle, a shuttle, transfer mechanism movable from normal to transfer position, means effective during the revoking interval to communicate a force positively from the shuttle feeler to the transfer mechanism to move the latter away from transferring position when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means operative by the lay to break said connections during the transfer period, the shuttle feeler being movable independently of the transferring mechanism during the transferring period because of said break in the connections.
7. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay movable successively through revoking and transferring intervals, a member movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler connected at all times to said member, a shuttle, transfer mechanism, a yieldable connection between the member and the transfer mechanism effective during the revoking interval to communicate a positive force from the member to the transfer mechanism when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means operative by the lay during the transferring interval to cause a change in said connections and thereby prevent the member from transmitting a force positively to the transfer mechanism, said member during the transferring interval being rendered thereby movable by the shuttle feeler independently of the transfer mechanism.
8. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay movable successively through revoking and transferring intervals, a member movable from normal to transfer position, a shuttle feeler connected at all times to said member, a shuttle, transfer mechanism, a yieldable connection between the member and the transfer mechanism effective during the revoking interval to communicate a positive force from the member to the transfer mechanism when the shuttle feeler is engaged by a misplaced shuttle, and means operative by the lay during the transferring interval to cause a change in said connections and thereby prevent the member from transmitting a force positively to the transfer mechanism, said member during the transferring interval being rendered movable by the shuttle feeler independently of the transfer mechanism, said connection including two parts which jointly define a pocket, and an element on the transfer mechanism to be received by the pocket.
9. In a weft replenishing loom, a lay moving back and forth and movable during a forward movement successively through revoking and transferring periods, transfer mechanism, a member to set the transfer mechanism for transfer, a revoker, means operative during the revoking period to communicate a force from the revoker to the transfer mechanism to positively prevent transfer, and means operative on the next forward beat of the lay to return the transfer mechanism to normal condition.
10. In a weft replenishing loom, a magazine for reserve bobbins, a shuttle, a lay moving backwardly and forwardly and on forward movements passing successively through revoking and transferring periods, transfer mechanism, means normally operatively related to the transfer mechanism to set the same for transfer, a revoker, the lay causing the revoker to positively prevent transfer if a shuttle is misplaced during the revoking period, the lay effective to break the connection between the means and transfer mechanism during the transfer period of a normal transfer, and means to restore the means and transfer mechanism to normal relations subsequent to the transfer period.
11. In a weft replenishing loom, a magazine for reserve bobbins, a shuttle, a lay moving backwardly and forwardly and on forward movements passing successively through revoking and transferring periods, transfer mechanism, means normally operatively related to the transfer mechanism to set the same for transfer, a revoker, the shuttle on the lay causing the revoker to positively prevent transfer if a shuttle is misplaced during the revoking period, the lay effective to break the connection between the means and transfer mechanism during the transfer period of a normal transfer, and means operated by the lay on the next forward movement thereof to restore the means and transfer mechanism to normal relations subsequent to the transfer period.
12. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay which moves successively through revoking and transferring periods, a shuttle, a revoker, transfer mechanism, means to set the revoker and transfer mechanism in transfer position, said means effective to transmit a positive force from the revoker to the transfer mechanism during the revoking period to prevent transfer positively if the shuttle is misplaced, a breakable connection forming' part of the means and being broken during the transferring period to disconnect the transfer mechanism from the revoker, and a device formed as part of the transfer mechanism to be operated by the lay when the latter enters the next transfer period to restore said connection to normal unbroken condition.
18. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay which moves successively through revoking and transferring periods, a shuttle, a revoker, transfer mechanism, means to set the revoker and transfer mechanism in transfer position, said means-effective to transmit a positive force from the revoker to the transfer mechanism during the revoking period to prevent transfer positively if the shuttle is misplaced, a breakable connection forming part of the means and being broken during the transferring period to disconnect the transfer mechanism from the revoker, said connection including two relatively yieldable parts and an element of the transfer mechanism, said parts and element being disengaged when the connection is broken, and a device operated by the lay as the latter moves during the next transfer period to move the element into normal operative relation with respect to said parts.
14. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay which moves successively through revoking and transferring periods, a shuttle, a revoker, transfer mechanism, means to set the revoker and transfer mechanism in transfer position, said means efiective to transmit a positive force from the revoker to the transfer mechanism during the revoking period to prevent transfer positively if the shuttle is misplaced, a breakable connection forming part of the means and being broken during the transferring period to disconnect the transfer mechanism from the revoker, a transferrer latch forming part of the transfer mechanism and capable of assuming two operative positions with respect to the lay, the first of which is effective to break the connection and the second of which is effective to restore the connection.
15. In a weft replenishing mechanism having a lay, a revoker, transfer mechanism, connections between the revoker and transfer mechanism, said connections effective to place the transferring mechanism in operative relation with respect to the lay to effect transfer, and means having provision by virtue of which the transfer mechanism after the completion of transfer remains operatively related to the lay, the latter eifective on the next forward movement thereof correspond ing to transfer to move the transfer mechanism out of operative relation with respect to the lay.
16. In a weft replenishingmechanism having a lay, transfer mechanism, a revoker, the transferrer mechanism having a part to assume two different operative relations with respect to the lay connection between the part and the revoker, the lay effective on one forward stroke thereof to break the connections between the part and the revoker when said part is in one of said positions, and the lay effective during the next forward stroke when the part is in the other operative position to restore the connection between said part and the revoker.
