Abstract

768,660. Automatic weft-mixing looms. GLEDHILL & SONS, Ltd., W. Jan. 23, 1953 [Oct. 23, 1951], No. 24672/51. Class 142 (2). A 4 x 1 automatic loom is converted to a 2 x 2 weft-mixing loom with automatic weft replenishment by the addition of an extra box at the single box end, only two of the four boxes at the-other end being used. The old weft is cut adjacent the box and at the selvedge and the new weft is cut at the selvedge. The loom operates on a four pick cycle. On the first pick, a bobbin in the top box is raised and engages the feeler 11, and if replenishment is necessary a spring turns the feeler to bring a finger 12 into line with a projection 13 on the breast beam. On the second pick, the finger engages the projection and thereby moves a rod 18 which causes a pawl 30 to position a lever 31 beneath one end of a link 33. The link is raised and lowered by a connection from the loom crank and when the lever 31 is beneath one end of the link the other end is moved further downwardly than usual and rocks an arm 39 through a connection 36. A spring loaded finger 43 returns the arm. The arm 39 rocks a member 47 which is longitudinally movable and carries fingers 49 one of which engages a projection 50 and raises a sliding selector member 51. When the member 51 is drawn down on the third pick by the bar 49 engaging a stop 50a, a cop is released from the appropriate magazine compartment and a latch 53 depresses a bar 56 and raises a rod 62 which lifts a lever into the path of an abutment on the slay. On the fourth pick, the transfer hammer is operated and the previously released cop is inserted into the top box, the empty cop passing through the lower box which is empty. Magazine selector mechanism.-A cam 79 is turned each time the transfer hammer operates and brings a different face against a detent 80. The member 47 is thereby moved longitudinally successively to bring one of the fingers 49 beneath one of the projections 50. This mechanism forms the subject-matter of Specification 768,661.
