Abstract
736,951. Threading shuttles in automatic looms. COEURTYS SOC. ANON. June 5, 1950 [June 7, 1949], No. 14027 /50. Class 142(2). The weft end of a newly inserted cop is threaded before the shuttle is picked by means connected to the cop changer mechanism and which exerts on the weft first a pull in the direction of the shuttle axis, then a forward pull, and finally a downward pull. The cops are held in a circular magazine and the ends are led over a guide 3 and secured to a pin 4. Simultaneously with the movement of a cop inserter 5, a rocker arm 10 moves downwards and its forked end engages the weft end, pressing it against two prongs 20a, 20b and pulling it down between them. At the end of the travel of the arm 10, a projection 10c engages one arm 17a of a spring biased lever and moves a second arm 17b of the lever away from an arm 14b. The arm 14b, urged anticlockwise by a spring 15 and connected to a hook 14, is thereby released and the hook 14 engages the weft and gives it a forward pull so that it enters an oblique threading slot in the shuttle. When the hook 14 pivots forwards, a hook 14a also pivots and retains the weft loop held by the rocker arm, which returns to its initial position. A hooked rod 22, actuated by levers 23, 27 from a cam 29 moves downwards and pulls the weft into an eye in the shuttle and into an eye on the slay. In an alternative construction, the exhausted shuttle passes into a box 42 positioned beyond the usual boxes 41. The weft end from a new cop is superimposed on a hook 47 pivoted on a pin 46 and mounted on a member 45 on the picker spindle. When the member 45 pushes the replenished shuttle back into one of the boxes 41, the hook 47 engages a cam plate 50 and pivots on the pin 46 drawing the weft forwards and into the path of a hooked rod 53. The rod 53 is reciprocated by a pinion 54 and by rack and pinion mechanism 57, 58 on the loom frame and draws the weft downwards. The rods 22, 53 also remove the cut weft ends. Specification 721,192 is referred to.
