Abstract

5964. Stamm, H. Nov. 7, 1913, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding barrel and breechblock.-Relates to automatic guns of the short barrel-recoil type in which a rotary bolt is operated during the recoil of the barrel by the engagement of a stud on the bolt with a camgroove in the fixed casing. The invention consists mainly in forming the initial part of the operating-groove parallel to the axis of the gun so that the rotary unlocking movement is delayed. The invention also comprises a double detent for the barrel and breech-bolt, an arrangement of the handle for hand actuation, and a block, secured to the breech-bolt, for depressing the cartridges in the magazine. The operating-groove, shown developed in Fig. 13, has two portions 21, 23 parallel to the axis of the bolt and two oblique portions 22, 24 for producing the unlocking and locking movements respectively. The handle 35, Figs. 2 and 14, is fixed to a non-rotary nut 28 screwed to the rear of the bolt 16, and has a sliding part 36 carrying a hook 38, Fig. 2, adapted to engage the spring-abutment rod 11. When the part 36 is moved outwards, the bolt is disconnected from its spring. The cartridge depressor comprises a block 42, Fig. 1, movably mounted on the bolt by rings 43 so that it does not turn with the bolt. The double detent 63, Fig. 1, shown separately in Figs. 22 and 23, is adapted to engage the notch 50 in the cartridge depressor, by means of the nose 64, to hold the bolt in the recoiled position, and also to engage by means of the tooth 65, Fig. 22, with a projection on the barrel extension to hold the barrel in a partly recoiled position. The projection on the barrel extension, by engaging the inclined surface 65<1>, depresses the catch 64 sufficiently to release the bolt, and finally a projection on the bolt-nut 28 engages the inclined surface 67<1> and thus releases the barrel.
