Abstract
1589. Soc. Anon. des Anciens Etablissements Hotchkiss et Cie. Aug. 8, 1913, [Convention date]. Breech actions, sliding breech block.-Relates to gas - operated guns that can be adjusted for hand actuation, and consists (1) in mounting the barrel A so that it can rotate slightly to shut or open the gas port h, Figs. 4 and 13, and (2) in a special catch for retaining the piston in its rear position when the feed - strip is exhausted during automatic firing. The barrel can be locked in either of its angular positions by a catch D, Fig. 4, which is acted upon by the sight-spring v<6>. The barrel is provided with two cams e, Fig. 4, which actuate a catch O for the purpose of putting the return spring P out of action when the gun is adjusted for non-automatic use. The catch O is also utilized to disengage the hand-slide from the piston when the gun is adjusted for automatic firing. The gas-piston H is, when the feed-strip is exhausted during automatic firing, held in its rear position by a spring catch T, having a shoulder b<13>, Fig. 7, adapted to engage a projection on the piston. In Fig. 8, the catch is shown in the position in which it engages the piston. This catch is disengaged from the piston by the feed-block Q, Fig. 6, described in Specification 1585/15, when it is swung back to the loading position shown in Fig. 6 after being recharged. It may also be disengaged by hand, or by the inclined side of the recess c, Figs. 8 and 8, in the barrel, when the barrel is rotated from the automatic position shown in Fig. 8, to the non- automatic position shown in Fig. 8. Specifications 15,774/14, 1585/15, 1586/15, 1587/15, and 1588/15 are referred to.
