Abstract

133,080. Officine di Villar Perosa. Nov. 20, 1916, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-Relates to automatic guns having a sliding breech-bolt which is rotated to unlock it by a short recoil of the barrel, and consists in the combination of the following features : (a) a device for rotating the breech-bolt to lock it, comprising a spring-pressed lever 61, Fig. 1, which, when the breech-block reaches its forward position, engages the bolt lever 8 and depresses it into a wide recess 10 at the forward end of a longitudinal slot 9, (b) an unlocking-device comprising a bell-crank lever 64, 65, Fig. 1, having one arm 65 behind the bolt lever 8 and the other arm 64 underneath, (c) firing-mechanism comprising a thumb-lever 40, Fig. 4, an intermediate lever 44, and a sear 47 having a sliding pawl 46 engaged by the intermediate lever, (d) a buffer spring 68, Fig. 4, acting rearwardly on the barrel to prevent the breech-bolt from rebounding when it reaches its forward position, by allowing the barrel to yield under the blow, (e) a catch for securing the magazine, comprising a sliding bolt 77, Fig. 4, actuated by a rack and pinion, (f) a handle block 29, Figs. 1 and 4. mounted by means of a bayonet-joint and locked by a catch 37, (g) an ejector, which also serves as a detent to hold the breech open, comprising a lever 52, Fig. 9, acted on by a spring 54 and at the rear having a projection which can be depressed by a thumbpiece into engagement with a recess 58 in the bolt, (h) a foresight 85 carried by an adjustable ring 88 on the barrel casing, and a backsight 87, and (i) a safety device, acting on the sear, comprising a rotary spindle 95, Fig. 4, having a cutaway part. The pivot pins used in the gun are made easily detachable, being secured by rotary joints comprising a lateral stud on the pin, a transverse groove in the pivot-hole, and a spring which forces the stud into a locking-recess in the transverse groove. Specifications 3222/12 and 14838/12. [both in Class 119, Small-arms], are referred to.
