Tripod mounts for machine guns.-Consists of an arrangement whereby, for firing at aerial targets, the cross-head carrying the gun is unclamped from the arm carrying the elevating-gear and swung laterally until the mechanism casing is above and between the front legs of the trail, as shown in Fig. 3. The cross-head B, in which the gun A is trunnioned, is rotatable about a vertical pivot c<2> relatively to the arm Bx which carries the elevating-gear B'. In the position for normal fire, the cross-head B and arm B<x> are clamped together, and the elevating-gear is connected to the mechanism casing of the gun in the usual mariner. The cartridge-belt box E described in Specification 3552/13, [Class 92 (ii), Ordnance &c.], may be used with this mounting.
