Abstract
14,280. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. Oct. 8. [Cognate Application, 6068/16.] Tripod and like mounts for machine guns.- Relates to tripod mountings for machine guns adapted to minimize the movement of the muzzle during training, for firing through an aperture in a shield &c., and comprises an arrangement wherein the gun casing A is connected to the cross-head member B of the mounting through the intermediary of a rearwardly-extending bar or tube D which carries the gun in such a position that the axis of the training-pivot C intersects the axis of the gun at or near the muzzle end thereof. The bar D is trunnioned at its forward end d to the crosshead B, and is connected at an intermediate point D<5> to elevating-gear such as a screw E carried by the rearward extension B<1> of the cross-head. In a modification, the rear end of the bar D is curved downwards and connected to the lug D<3> on the gun, through a pivoted rod and a clamping-device, whereby the gun may be elevated and depressed about the trunnions D'. In the further modification shown in Fig. 6, attachment lugs D<1x>, D<2x> are formed on the brackets D<1>, D<2> so that the gun may be mounted and used in its normal position without detaching the bar D, thus enabling it to be readily used in either position.
