Abstract
16,216. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. July 13. Ordnance breech mechanism.-Relates to percussive firing - mechanism of the kind that is actuated from a part of the mounting that does not move in elevation with the gun. According to the invention, the transmission device between the trigger mechanism on the mounting and the striker-releasing means F, Fig. 1. on the gun, comprises a rotary shaft E, which shaft is conneeted at its front end, by a universal joint E<3>, to a spindle e<3> supported by a bracket e<3Î>, shown in end elevation in Fig. 11, on a fixed part M of the mounting, and at its rear end, the shaft is connected by a universal joint E<4> to a rotary spindle e<4> carried in a bracket E<ÎÎ> on the cradle B. The spindle e<3> is actuated by a trigger d, which may be carried by the handle D' of the elevating-gear hand-wheel or lever D, through the mechanism d<1Î>, d<Î>, d<2>, d', E<3Î>, shown in Fig. 11. The spindle e<4> actuates a vertical slide through a crank arm and spring- controlled tappet, an arm F<Î> of which slide engages with the strike-releasing device F on the gun. In a modification, the spindle e<4> is replaced by a rotary sleeve containing a spring plunger, which plunger is adapted to engage in a rotary sleeve carried by a bracket on the gun and connected with the striker-releasing device. If the trigger d is not released after the discharge, the plunger is held in a position in which it cannot re-enter the rotary sleeve on the gun when the gun runs-out, and thus accidental discharge is prevented. A re-cocking device operated by a handle E<4Î> on the cradle is provided, and actuates the re-cocking lever e<6ÎÎ> on the gun through a rod E<4ÎÎ> slidably mounted in the bracket E<ÎÎ>. Specification 1475/11 is referred to.
