Sights.-Relates to sighting-telescopes and mountings therefor especially intended for machine guns, and consists of (1) a special adjustable mounting, (2) a sighting-telescope having an angularly adjustable reticule, and (3) a device for automatically adjusting the sight to correct for errors due to the heating of the barrel. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 5, the telescope a is mounted in collars e, e' on a sight bar j, each collar being provided with a horizontal and a vertical adjusting-screw g. The sight bar j is pivoted at k to a frame l which is secured by a dovetail joint and by a spring catch v and a clamp x to a plate fixed to the gun. A coiled spring m around the pivnt k prevents back-lash. The sight bar is elevated by a screw device comprising a non-rotary screw o<1>, Fig. 5, connected to the sight bar, and a rotary screw o mounted on the frame. A casing t, Figs. 1 and 5, fixed to the screw o<1> has an opening t' through which graduations on the outside of the screw o can be seen. The reticule of the telescope is carried by an angularly adjustable ring c, Fig. 1, which can be fixed in position by a set-serew d. To compensate for the heating of the barrel, the sight can be adjusted by a screw-head g<1> or automatically by a device, shown diagrammatically in Fig. 12, comprising a metal bar A lying along the barrel and acting on a lever C, the movement of which, due to the expansion of the bar A, is communicated to the sight a by mechanism comprising a wire E, a lever G, a plunger I, a bell-crank K, and a wedge M.
