12,238. Hillis, J. May 24. Sights.-Relates to a back-sight of the type which has vertical and lateral adjustments, and is secured to the cocking-piece of the rifle. The sight casing 5 is removably clamped to the rear end of the cocking-piece 3 by means of a jaw 7, slidable in a dovetail groove a and operated by a screw 8. The stem 13 is vertically adjustable in a guideway 12 by means of a pinion 20, and the guideway is laterally adjustable on guides 10, 11 by means of a screw 15. The bar 11 has slots through which the fixing-screws pass to provide for lateral zero adjustment. The aperture disk 14 may be fixed to the stem 13, or may be vertically adjustable relatively thereto by means of a screw and nut 23. In the latter case, an apertured shield 25 is provided, which may carry a tinted glass 27. Slackness of fit of the cocking-piece is taken up, without interfering with the firing, by a plate 30 bent up at 31 to form a support for the sight casing 5. The plate 30 may be resilient, and is secured to the stock by means of a wing-headed screw 32 or otherwise.
