sum 1 or 2 FIE Z 1 SIGHTING DEVICE FOR SPORTING FIREARMS The present invention relates to sporting firearms, and, more particularly, it relates to sighting devices for sporting firearms.
It is most expedient to use a sighting device constructed in accordance with the present invention for mounting on match pistols.
Known in the art are sighting devices for match pistols, wherein the housing, i.e. the sight leaf together with the backsight mounted thereon, is secured on a pivot pin. The pin has the ends thereof received in openings provided in the left-hand and right-hand (in the direction of the sighting line) walls of the base. This base is secured to the frame of the pistol, in which way the sighting device is mounted on the pistol. The housing is mounted on the base for rotation and reciprocation by .means of vertical and horizontal correction screws. The known sighting device includes a mechanism for retaining the ends of the pivot pin and the end faces of the said screws in engagement with the base.
The backsight is adjustably mounted on the housing by means of two'screws, the housing having transverse grooves made in the right-hand and left-hand sides thereof for adjusting the backsight at approximate adjustment fire.
A serious disadvantage of the known sighting device is the fact that it does not positively prevent slanting of the backsight relative to the housing, whereas the range of adjustment of the backsight relative to the housing is insufficient, since the grooves in the housing have a relatively small length.
It is an object of the present invention to eliminate these disadvantages.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a sighting device for sporting firearms, wherein the connection of the backsight with the housing should provide for a broad range of adjustment of the position of the backsight relative to the housing at approximate adjustment fire.
With this and other objects in view, the present invention resides in a sighting device for sporting firearms, having a base supporting thereon a housing including vertical and horizontal correction screws, the housing having mounted on the end face thereof a backsight connected with said housing for horizontal adjustment relative thereto at adjustment fire, characterized in that the said connection of the backsight with said housing is effected by means of a pin urged toward this housing by screws mounted in said backsight, for which purpose the housing has made therein, adjacent to the face end thereof, a through opening adapted to accommodate therein the said pin, the housing being further provided with a through slot adjoining this opening along the generatrix of the internal surface of said opening, this slot offering passage of the said screws toward the pin, whereby the backsight may be adjusted relative to the housing within a broad range of adjustments.
A sighting device for sporting and match firearms, constructed in accordance with the present invention, offers a wider range of adjustments of the backsight relative to the housing of the device at approximate adjustment fire, then the hitherto known sighting devices.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of an embodiment of the present invention,
with reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a general side elevation view of a match pistol incorporating a sighting device in accordance with the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view along line IIII of FIG. 3, i.e. a sectional view of the sighting device embodying the invention in a plane passing through the hand grip of the pistol;
FIG. 3 is a sectional view along line IIIIII in FIG.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view along line IVIV in FIG. 3.
Referring now in particular to the appended drawings, the match pistol includes a frame 1 (FIG. I) having mounted thereon a barrel 2 with a compensator 3, a trigger action 4, a sighting device 5 and a hand grip 6.
The sighting device 5 comprises a base 7 (FIGS. 2 and 3) by means of which the device is secured to the frame 1 of the pistol. The base 7 supports thereon a housing 8 rigidly fixed to a pivot pin 9. The pivot pin 9 has the opposite ends thereof received in openings made in the right-hand and left-hand walls (in the direction of the aiming line) of the base 7. Thus, the pivot pin 9 is mounted in the base for rotation about the axis thereof and reciprocation relative to the base.
Rotation of the housing 8, i.e. of the housing 8 jointly with the pivot pin 9 is effected with the help of a vertical correction screw 10, while axial reciprocation of this housing with the pivot pin 9 is effected with the help of a horizontal correction screw 11.
The end face of the housing 8 has mounted thereon a backsight l2 offering adjustment of the sighting device at approximate adjustment fire of the pistol. The backsight I2 is connected with the housing 8 by means of a pin 13 urged against the housing 8 by screws 14. To accommodate this pin 13, the housing 8 has made therein a through opening extending parallel to the end face of the housing, adjacent thereto, as well as a slot 15 (FIGS. 3 and 4) through which the screws 14 pass toward the pin 13, the slot adjoining the opening and extending along the generatrix thereof.
With the backsight 12 being connected with the housing 8 in the herein disclosed manner, it can be adjusted relative to this housing within a wide range.
Introduction of corrections at approximate adjustment fire of the herein disclosed pistol is effected, as follows.
The housing 8 is mounted in a central position relative to the base I, by operating the horizontal correction screw 11.
Then the screws 14 providing for rigid connection between the backsight 12, the pin 13 and the housing 8 are loosened. The backsight 12 is adjusted jointly with the pin 13 into a desired position, whereafter the screws 14 are tightened, re-connecting rigidly the housing 8 with the pin 13 and the backsight l2. Thereafter fine ranging of the pistol is effected with the help of the horizontal and vertical correction screws 11 and 10, respectively.
What is claimed is:
1. A sighting device for a sporting firearm, comprising: a base; a housing mounted on said base for adjustment-wise rotation and reciprocation relative thereto at ranging of said firearm; a backsight adjoining an end face of said housing; a through opening made in said through said slot toward said pin, whereby said backsight may be adjusted jointly with said pin relative to said housing within a broad range at ranging of said firearm.
