Abstract

Periscopes.-Relates to ordnance sights of the horizontal-periscope type, and consists in an arrangement whereby the range adjustment of the sights is made by rotating the objective of the periscope relatively to the tube thereof. Lateral corrections are made by tilting the objective reflector in known manner.. Fig. 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a sectional plan of the device. The eyepiece end A<3> of the periscope is carried by a bracket B<1> on the mounting B, and the central part A<1> of the tube is coupled by a parallel-motion link C to the elevating-gear sector D<1> connected to the gun cradle D. A worm gear E, e<1> rotates the casing A of the objective reflector relatively to the part A<1> for range-adjustment, and after this adjustment is made, the gun is elevated until the target is sighted through the periscope. A worm gear F, f<1> rocks the reflector a<7> in the casing A for lateral corrections. The periscope may be mounted on the gun cradle, in which case the central rotating part A<1> is not required, the range-adjustment being effected by rotating the part A of the casing relatively to the part A<3>.
