Abstract

567,219. Gun sights. TAYLOR, TAYLOR, & HOBSON, Ltd., and CLIFFORD, T. W. July 22, 1943, Nos. 11962/43 and 6507/44. [Class 92 (ii)] Movements of the sight due to the shocks of sustained fire are damped, and the sight line is kept parallel to the axis of the gun, by mounting the sight F<1> on a carrier such as D<2> which is moved against the action of a loading spring E acting on the carrier through a lever D pivoted on the gun trunnion B<1>. The sight carrier D<2> may be the fore and aft link of a parallel-motion linkage as shown in Fig. 1, or the carrier may be mounted for sliding movement in straight guides on the cradle as shown in Fig. 7. The sight F<1> may be pivoted to the carrier and initially adjusted by screws for the tangentelevation correction. The periscope sight F<3> is viewed rearwardly through an eye-piece F<2> near the trunnion axis by a gunner on the turnable platform C<4>.
